Housing Act amended for benefit of Building Owners

Housing Act amended for benefit of Building Owners

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will amend the Strata Title Act 1985 and the Building and Common Property Act 2007 to protect the interests of strata property owners.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung said the amendment to the existing housing act was to compel developers to apply for building strata titles within six months after the sales and purchase (S&P) agreement was signed.

"The amendment also enables the strata title to be obtained by the house purchaser together with all the purchase documents including the certificate of fitness for occupation (CFO).

"Currently, it's not compulsory for the developer to apply for the building's strata title after signing the S&P agreement. Now, they only apply after the CF is issued," he said when replying to Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (PAS-Kota Raja) in the Dewan Rakyat, here today.
